Welcome to another series on The Daily Coffee Pro Podcast by Map It Forward podcast for the week commencing Feb 3rd, 2025!

The coffee market is making history, and we’re witnessing unprecedented volatility across the supply chain. Record prices, Trump’s on-again off-again tariffs, cuts to USAID, weather issues in coffee-growing regions, and currency gymnastics are all playing an important role in market volatility this week!

🎙 Podcast

This week, we’re joined by Felipe Croce (FAF Coffees, Brazil) and Angel Barrera (Belco, Colombia)—two experts with deep industry experience who helped us unpack the most volatile year in coffee history.

🚨 Record-Breaking Coffee Prices

The C-Market has hit 389, marking seven consecutive days of record highs. This is an industry-defining moment, and it's only the beginning. In our estimation, we could see the market hit 400 any day now.

These record-breaking highs are starting to break the backs of many coffee businesses. One example is is Barrie House, a 90-year-old business in the United States. CEO Scott Montgomery wrote on LinkedIn:

“Sadly, Barrie House has ceased operations and is winding down after 90 years in business. A convergence of events proved to be the perfect storm that was more than the company could bear…The incredibly elevated green market certainly played a roll and is stressing roasters of all sizes globally. I'm sure Barrie House will not be alone is its demise, but I truly hope we are one of a few, and not one of many. Times like these have the potential to change the entire industry landscape.”

It was a pleasure to sit down with Khaled Abuljebain for an in-depth discussion on the coffee crisis. In this long-format episode, we unpack the complexities of what’s happening in the industry and what coffee businesses should prepare for in the coming years.
