Welcome to another series on The Daily Coffee Pro Podcast by Map It Forward podcast for the week commencing Oct 7, 2024!

Firstly, the escalation of geopolitical issues is adding further pressure to the challenges being faced by the coffee supply chain. This week markets 12 months since the Oct 7th attack on the people of Israel as well as a year since the beginning of a brutal mass depopulation attempt inflicted on the people of Palestine in response.

The loss of life on both sides, which is now including the Lebanese people, is a travesty.

Further, the loss of businesses in the region is yet another way the greater industry will be impacted by the conflicts. e.g. Cafes and roasteries are destroyed or closed, they have to stop buying coffee from producers/importers, their employees are out of work, packaging companies and other suppliers lose orders, etc.

Next, Our mastermind groups kick off this week and the class of 2024 is inspiring! For those who asked, we will be running them again in 2025 in Q2. You will be able to reserve your spot soon.

Our upcoming live online event “Introduction to Regenerative Coffee Farming” for coffee producers and the wider coffee industry in English, Spanish, and Portuguese on Oct 28, 29, and 30th, is now open for registration here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/introduction-to-regenerative-coffee-farming-tickets-1032555741017

Tickets are $10 for coffee producers and $150 for everyone else. When you pay $150, you are purchasing one ticket for yourself and paying it forward to 14 coffee producers who don't quite have the funds to pay for their own tickets. If you’re a roaster, I’d encourage you to gift tickets to your producers!

Not only does your ticket give you access to the workshop but it also gives you access to newly formed WhatsApp groups where people can continue exchanging information and ideas.

Also, this week on the podcast we have Miguel Zamora from the International Coffee Organization (ICO) joining us to discuss how the ICO is working with governments and other partners around the world to achieve a living income for coffee producers.

I found this discussion very enlightening. The ICO is one of those organizations that we’ve all heard of but may not know exactly what they do. In this series, Miguel did a great job helping me to understand what the ICO and more specifically, what he as the coordinator of ‘The Coffee Public Private Taskforce” is hoping to accomplish.

The five-episode of this series are:

1. Who and What Is The ICO? - https://youtu.be/xoxEyUdID7o

2. What Is A Living Income For Coffee Producers? - https://youtu.be/i5_FJ0nkmKw

3. The Stakeholders Defining Coffee Producers' Living Income - https://youtu.be/wevnoKEM_kQ

4. The Obstacles Preventing Farms Living Income - https://youtu.be/DuWl28ZM-pU

5. The Path Forward for Coffee Farmer Incomes - https://youtu.be/R_2vW88576E
