Here’s what’s happening this week at Map It Forward!

The Market

Coffee businesses across the value chain are starting to feel the pressure as the Arabica C-market continues to hover between 380 and 400. With Arabica prices doubling in the last 12 months, retail prices are expected to rise by up to 25% globally, but that may not be enough to save many businesses.

What this means for stakeholders across the value chain:

  • Producers: Still not guaranteed better margins, especially if middlemen suppress prices at origin.

  • Exporters/Importers: Facing pressure to fulfill contracts amid volatile pricing and limited availability.

  • Roasters: 25% increase for small/medium business owners will not be enough to cover the increase in COGS. Those without locked-in supply may be forced to buy at peak prices or face empty warehouses. We expect this will lead to an increase in closures.

  • Retailers: Must decide how much cost to absorb. Customer loyalty is about to be challenged, and we’ll learn important info about the elasticity of coffee prices (look it up and learn more about this, folks) .

  • Consumers: Will see higher shelf prices and may shift to cheaper brands or reduce consumption.

The Consumer

Still wondering whether you should increase your prices—both B2B and B2C? Now is the time.

The mainstream media is catching up to the story, with folks like Kat Melheim (@roasterkat) highlighting how real this is. Share those articles with your customers and community and let them see that this conversation isn’t just industry-insider talk anymore.

Don’t know how to calculate what your prices should be? You’re not alone. Most small business owners haven’t been taught how to do this properly. But learning how is critical to survival in 2025.
