"Assertiveness Training for the Hospitality Industry" is a full-day workshop recorded at UTS in Sydney, Australia in late 2019 to later present it as this online course.

Led by psychologist Dr. Jamie Berry and Founder of MAP IT FORWARD Lee Safar, this full-day workshop will help hospitality workers (and anyone really) develop their assertiveness skills to produce better long-term mental health and happier workplaces.

This online course was created because a common problem in workplaces worldwide, across all industries, is a lack of assertiveness. This can result in aggressive behavior, where people violate the rights of others, or passive behavior, where people allow their rights to be violated. Both extremes can lead to the harm of one's mental health.

An overarching goal for MAP IT FORWARD to leave a legacy that advocates for healthy and mutually beneficial communication strategies in the workplace by offering resources, like this online course, that encourage assertive communication. If you complete this course and think it might be beneficial for your colleagues or employees, please encourage them to check it out. As you'll see in this course, the more people within the hospitality industry (and the world) communicating assertively, the more professionalism and long-term success that can be anticipated.

After completing this online course, you will be able to:

  • distinguish assertive behavior from passive or aggressive behavior;

  • demonstrate greater verbal and non-verbal assertiveness skills;

  • apply assertiveness within your workplace to improve the health and well-being of yourself and your colleagues and customers;

  • apply assertiveness more broadly within your life to maximize care to yourself and minimize harm to others.
